VINEYARDS
THE STORY OF TWO FAMILIES
After working for many years on the Abbaye de Santenay estate under the joint ownership of Michel Clair, and converting it to organic and biodynamic viticulture, Ludovic set up Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot in partnership with Jean-Marc Pandraud.
Both have made Burgundy their home and are deeply attached to their families’ wine-growing heritage, coming together under the name Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot to ensure that each vintage reflects its terroir, with a unique signature. What unites the two men are their shared values and their intention to pass on an exceptional wine heritage to their respective daughters, Margaux, Alice, Charlotte, Alice and Amélie.
LUDOVIC, A COMMITTED WINE GROWER
Ludovic began working on the hillsides of Bordeaux with his winemaker uncle at an early age, and was producing estate wines by the time he was 18. In the early 2000s, he became aware of the impact of viticulture on the environment, and turned to biodynamic agriculture.
As an enologist who also holds a qualification in viticulture-enology, a business qualification in wine and spirits and a Master’s degree in vine sciences, Ludovic worked for many years alongside Anne-Claude Leflaive, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Burgundy.
Ludovic is a fervent defender of the environment, so biodynamic viticulture is truly a philosophy of life for him. He was convinced of the benefits of this method of cultivation, so he converted the Abbaye de Santenay estate to organic and biodynamic farming and gained Demeter certification. He also works as a consultant with other winegrowers who are moving into biodynamics, sharing his passion and passing on his skills and practices.
TERROIRS
& APPELLATIONS
IN BURGUNDY
With 23 hectares of vines in Côtes de Beaune and Hautes-Côtes, divided between Chardonnay (15%), Aligoté (10%) and Pinot Noir (60%), Ludovic produces fine Burgundy red and white wines in the Santenay, Pernand-Vergelesses and Hautes-Côtes de Beaune appellations.
He is passionate about these highly individual plots or “climats”, classified as Unesco World Heritage Sites, and aims to bring out every nuance of the terroir in his wines.
With his white wines, Ludovic produces precise, well-balanced vintages that express the minerality of the terroir.
With his reds, Ludovic makes wines that flatter the eye with their brilliance and depth, astonish with their aromatic freshness from the first hint of the bouquet, and support the finesse of the tannins on the palate.
in Beaujolais
Further south, Vignobles Ludovic Pierrot also cultivates nearly four hectares in one of Beaujolais’ most renowned terroirs: the Morgon appellation.
From a special southeast-facing terroir, planted with white-juiced Gamay Noir grapes, Cru Morgon grows in complex granite soils that give it its distinctive ochre-red colour.
The huge originality of the Morgon appellation lies in the aromas of ripe stone fruits that is not found in any other Beaujolais vintage.
